I grew up with the sounds of Beethoven, Bach, and Tchaikovsky. My brother was a clarinet prodigy. There were always concerts and trips to the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Or as I knew it as , The Boston POPS. My whole life I called it the Boston Pops but I never knew why. I love that architectural photography makes me research and learn. The BSO is called "Pops" because the concerts were originally called "Promenade Concerts", then they were informally called , "Popular Concerts." This became "Pops," officially in 1900.
For any that have a teenager at home or can relate to the younger set, There is a slew of words that I struggle to understand. Lit, bussin, dank, fire, drip, goat, dope, ect. They all mean cool in some way. As does the word popular. I have to stop my daughter in mid-sentence and ask what in the world she is talking about sometimes.
I mean what comes to my mind is an evening out. Someone LIT a fire in the kitchen, while I am BUSSIN out of my dress because I ate too much dinner in a DANK
and dark restaurant and I am DRIPing with sweat because I am having a hot flash. There was GOAT on the menu and the waiter definitely smoked DOPE before his shift. Right???? Does anyone else understand what I am saying?
Let's resurrect POPS. It makes sense. They sure knew what they were doing in 1900. Enough of my rant. I love the play on words. This sign just screams, POPS of COLOR.
